Fill in a guarantor form online
Upload the guarantor or suretyship form and DocFilla fills the guarantor's names, ID number, address, employer and income. Read what you are standing surety for before you sign.
Letting agents, landlords, banks and schools ask a parent or employer to stand surety for someone else's rent, loan or fees. The form wants the guarantor's identity, address, employment and income, and a signature that makes the guarantor liable. DocFilla fills the identity and employment lines from your saved details; the liability is yours to read.

What the form asks for
- Guarantor's full names, ID number, marital status and spouse's consent where required
- Physical and postal address, and contact details
- Employer, position, length of employment and gross monthly income
- The person and the obligation being guaranteed: the lease, the loan amount or the fees
- The limit of the guarantee, if any, and how long it lasts
- Consent to a credit check
- Signature, initials on each page, witnesses and date
What to attach
- A copy of the guarantor's ID
- The last three payslips or bank statements
- Proof of address
- The spouse's consent, where married in community of property
Mistakes people make
- Not reading whether the guarantee is unlimited or capped at an amount.
- Signing without the spouse's consent where the marriage requires it, which can make the surety unenforceable or cause a dispute later.
- Giving an income figure that does not match the payslips attached.
- Missing the initials on inside pages.
Questions about this form
- What am I agreeing to as a guarantor?
- To pay if the person you guarantee does not. Read whether the guarantee is for a fixed amount or for everything owed, and for how long. If anything is unclear, ask the institution before signing.
- Can a suretyship be signed electronically?
- The Electronic Communications and Transactions Act does not exclude suretyships, but many banks and some agents still ask for a wet signature on them. Check with the institution; DocFilla fills the form either way.
- Can the agent send the guarantor form to my parent to complete?
- Yes. The agent sends the form with DocFilla to the guarantor's email address; they complete and sign on their phone and the copy returns to the agent.
